The Eight: SS18 fashion edit

Some of my favourite inspiration cuts from spring-summer 2018.

Tom Ford’s hot pink stilettos. The “frayed satin pump” stays delicate with its gently ragged edges and milky-white toe box and heel but this shade that has screamed female empowerment since the beginning of 2017 makes these the perfect footwear for girlbossin’ nasty women. And yes, they also come in other colours.

Alexander McQueen’s glass organza gowns. Inspired by English gardens, these dresses have ruffles fashioned like the paper flower bouquets you made as a kid (or maybe you still do?). Florals adorn the gorgeous fabric that I like to call twenty-first century organza.

Versace’s brights and iconic prints. Throwback designs helmed this collection, but it was the rainbow brights that made this a modern girl’s wishlist wardrobe. Plus, clad in gold the supers of the 90s reunited (The Golden Girls?).

Burberry’s pastel plastic rain jackets. The design house’s mainstay item is a trenchcoat and we Brits LOVE them. But it was these sugar almond shaded haute anoraks that made us almost wish for rain. Almost.

Jeremy Scott’s glittery, neon sweatshirt dresses. I’ve spent the winter swaddled in oversized sweats. What better way to come out of hibernation than to crawl into a brighter, sparklier version of my cold weather uniform? Honourable mention: Scott’s sequinned hoodies. I wrote a young adult fantasy novel book about hip, teenage fairies. This is what I’d clothe them in.

Dior’s sheer dresses. And skirts. And tops. Maria Chiuri Grazia created a collection celebrating the young and young at heart. My teenage fairies would rock these well.

Gucci’s ‘Never Marry a Mitford’ sweater. The stylish, scandalous Mitford sisters captivated early twentieth-century Britain with their outspoken brashness and political fire. Judging by this jumper, they continue to fascinate well into the twenty-first century. An appropriate homage.

Chanel’s water droplet earrings. When your runway theme is water, you better have accessories that fit. These dangly earrings do – perfectly. Clear, but huge, the water droplet earrings are going to be your new favourite way to graze your shoulders this season.
